The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will open on Friday, June 2 at 6 a.m. to mark the official start of the 2023 season. Following a record-setting snow season, this delayed opening is necessary to ensure the safe plowing of State Route 67 and allow staff to reopen visitor facilities on the North Rim. -NPS

Grand Canyon National Park’s North Rim will begin day-use operations on October 19, 2020. At this time, the Grand Canyon Lodge will close and no overnight accommodations, including camping, will be available to visitors at the North Rim.

The entrance gate on State Route 67, which provides vehicular access to the North Rim, will be closed on November 30, 2020, or after the first major snowstorm if prior to that date.

Visitors exploring the North Rim after October 19 should plan to be self-sufficient and bring enough food and water for the day. Limited services will be available.

The following services will remain operational:

The General Store will offer limited groceries while supplies last and retail items Wednesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The self-serve gas station, including diesel, will be available for as long as State Route 67 is open. It will only accept credit and debit cards.
After October 31, water will only be available at the North Rim Backcountry Information Center.

Arizona 67 from Jacob Lake to the North Rim is closed for the winter. All facilities at North Rim Village are also closed for the winter.

Grand Canyon National Park will implement closures of the Cape Royal Road, Cape Final Trail, and Cliff Spring Trail tomorrow August 4th, 2018 at 9:00 pm. This closure is for public and firefighter safety as crews continue to prep the Walhalla Plateau. Park visitors currently planning on driving along Cape Royal Road or hiking at Cape Final or Cliff Spring are required to be out of the area by 9:00 pm. tomorrow. The temporary closure is in effect until further notice. The road to Point Imperial and all other North Rim trails and facilities are open at this time.

All North Rim roads are closed for the winter. The North Rim reopens on May 15, 2018.

Hikers and cross country skiers will be able to enter the North Rim through the winter months with valid backcountry permits.

For campground use, backcountry reservations are required November 1 through May 15, as the North Rim Campground switches to primitive use with walk-in only sites and no running water. North Rim operations will begin seasonal shut-down of most visitor services on Sunday, October 15. Reservations for the 2017 season at the Grand Canyon Lodge, operated by Forever Resorts, go through October 15. 2018 reservations are ongoing. The last meal served at the Grand Canyon Lodge will be breakfast on the morning of October 16; no food service will be available in the park after this meal. The lodge gift shop will be open through October 31. Self-service gas and diesel fuel will continue to be available. Canyon Trail Rides will offer their last mule rides on October 15.

Repairs to the damaged water pipeline serving Grand Canyon National Park’s North Rim were completed ahead of schedule this week, allowing lodging for those with prior reservations, campgrounds, and other services to open May 15 as normally scheduled.

North Rim operations will begin seasonal shut-down of most visitor services on Saturday, October 15. The North Rim will remain open to day-use visitors and overnight campers, until Thursday, December 1 unless heavy snowfall closes State Highway 67 earlier.
