Grand Canyon National Park Closed

Due to the government shutdown, Grand Canyon National Park and AZ 64 through the park are closed until further notice. The adjoining Kaibab National Forest and Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument are open, as are the Havasupai and Hualapai Reservations. We suggest that you contact your Congressmen and Senators and ask that they pass an interim Federal budget as soon as possible so that the parks can reopen.

2013 Grand Canyon Celebration of Art

September 14, 2013 - January 14, 2014

Hosted each year by the Grand Canyon Association, the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art is an annual event that includes 6 days of art related events followed by a 3 month long exhibition in Kolb Studio on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.

The exhibit opens with a reception on September 21, 2013 from 11 am to 1pm, which is free and open to the public.

50th Anniversary of Colin Fletcher's Hike of the Length of Grand Canyon National Park

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Colin Fletcher’s 400 mile backpacking trip through Grand Canyon from Hualapai Hilltop to Point Imperial from April to June 1963. His poetic impressions and memoirs of the journey are revealed in his book - The Man Who Walked Through Time.-

Seasonal Closures Begin on North Rim

The staff on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will begin to shut down most visitor services and facilities on Tuesday, October 15; the North Rim will remain open to visitors through December 1 unless snow closes Highway 67 leading into the park prior to December 1.

Repairs Completed on South Kaibab Trail

Recent heavy monsoonal rainfall caused damage to portions of the South Kaibab Trail approximately one-half mile below Cedar Ridge closing the trail to livestock use. Trail crews have completed work to remove debris from the trail. The trail is now open to livestock as well as foot traffic.

North and South Kaibab Trails Damaged by Heavy Rain

Recent heavy monsoonal rainfall has caused damage to portions of the South Kaibab Trail approximately one-half mile below Cedar Ridge and to the North Kaibab Trail below Supai Tunnel.

Free Admission on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28

Grand Canyon National Park will be joining national park units across the country in celebrating National Public Lands Day (NPLD) with fee free entry into the park on Saturday, September 28, 2013.

Temporary Closure of Cape Royal Road

Grand Canyon National Park has begun improvements to Cape Royal Road on the North Rim. Beginning September 3, 2013 Cape Royal Road from Roosevelt Point to Cape Royal Point, at approximately mile 11.5, will be closed for repaving.

Additional improvements along the stretch of Cape Royal Road include sidewalk replacement at Walhalla Pullout, parking lot enhancements at the Cape Royal Parking area and repaving the Cape Royal Trail and Overlook.

Free Admission Sunday August 25

In celebration of the National Park Service's 97th birthday all 401 national park units, including Grand Canyon National Park will waive entrance fees on Sunday, August 25, 2013.

Twentieth Annual Native American Heritage Days

The National Park Service invites the public to the 20th annual Native American Heritage Days on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.

This event, which celebrates the rich cultural diversity of the Colorado Plateau, the Arizona Strip and the Grand Canyon, will begin with a morning nature walk on Thursday, August 8, 2013, and will end with a special evening program on Friday, August 9.
