Kaibab National Forest- South Rim

The Tusayan Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest encompasses the forested area south of the national park, from west of Tusayan to south of Desert View. A network of dirt forest roads crosses the national forest and provides access for recreationists, ranchers, loggers, and other users of the forest. Camping is the most popular recreational activity in the forest, and camping is allowed at Ten-X Campground on the Tusayan Ranger District as well as dispersed sites. See Camping for details.

Arizona Trail

A major section of the Arizona Trail runs through the Tusayan Ranger District. Over 800 miles long, the Arizona Trail runs north to south across Arizona from the Utah to Mexican borders. Completed in 2012, the trail is open to hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians, except in Grand Canyon National Park where the Arizona Trail is open only to hikers. An especially scenic portion of the Arizona Trail follows the Coconino Rim southeast from Grandview Lookout, a fire observation tower. See Hiking for more information.
